On May 25, 2019, the second session of our company-organized external training program was successfully held. This time, we invited a total of 14 qualified suppliers to join the training, which lasted for two days and focused on the 8D methodology and the fifth edition of FMEA. The lead instructor for the course was Teacher Zong from Shanghai Aiwei Corporate Training.

8D is an eight-step problem-solving methodology designed primarily to determine whether an issue truly requires the 8D approach—or if it’s better addressed through simpler, more immediate actions. For instance, issues like pricing or budget constraints may not warrant the full 8D process. Instead, this first step focuses on implementing an urgent response tailored to the situation at hand.
At its core, the 8D method aims to establish a structured system that encourages seamless information sharing across the entire team, fostering collaboration and alignment toward a common goal. While 8D doesn’t provide specific solutions or strategies for resolving problems, it serves as an invaluable tool for enhancing problem-solving efficiency and building a wealth of experience in tackling challenges.
Ultimately, 8D offers a systematic framework for identifying and addressing quality-related issues—enabling organizations to pinpoint root causes, develop both short-term, mid-term, and long-term corrective actions, and take decisive steps to eliminate or minimize the recurrence of similar problems.
FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) is an analytical method used to identify potential failure modes and their root causes. During the product and process design phases, FMEA systematically examines each subsystem, component that makes up the product, as well as every step in the manufacturing process, pinpointing all possible failure modes and assessing their likely consequences. This allows organizations to proactively implement necessary measures, ultimately enhancing both the quality and reliability of the product. The ultimate goal of FMEA is to enable easy, cost-effective modifications to products or processes—before issues arise—thereby minimizing the need for costly post-crisis fixes. By identifying actions that can prevent or mitigate these potential failures, FMEA helps improve a product’s quality, reliability, and safety.

Training is a powerful way of learning—and the most effective means of enhancing business and skill-related knowledge. In today’s fast-paced world, knowledge updates and obsolescence are accelerating rapidly. By engaging in training, employees can deepen their understanding of why continuous learning is not just important but also essential. To meet ever-evolving job demands, organizations must rely on learning and training to embrace fresh perspectives and innovative approaches. Through ongoing education and development, we can foster creative thinking, enabling us to tackle competitive challenges with bold, forward-thinking solutions. Ultimately, by consistently investing in learning, we can leverage others' strengths while addressing our own areas for improvement—only then can we live up to the trust placed in us by the organization and successfully fulfill the tasks entrusted to us.
